FOYLE
FOYLE is a co-operative venture between libraries, museums and archive centres in the Western Education and Library Board Area. It is part of the Inspire programme and hopes to exploit resources more fully by providing enhanced access for all and to reach non-users and those currently excluded from access to learning opportunities.
This is a pilot project and a first in Northern Ireland. Whilst the primary aim for all the authorities involved is to support the effective delivery of services to their customers by working in co-operation, the project is also seen as an opportunity to share best practice and develop innovative approaches to service delivery.
The following organisations are members of FOYLE:
- Altnagelvin Trust Library in Association with Queen's University Medical Library
- Education Centre Library, St Conal's Hospital Letterkenny
- Genealogy Centre
- Health Promotion Library
- Heritage and Museum Service, Derry City Council
- North West Institute of Further Education Library
- Omagh College
- University of Ulster Library
- Verbal Arts Centre
- Western Education and Library Board

Ni-libraries.net
The five public library services in Northern Ireland have implemented
the Electronic Libraries project (ELFNI) which provides a single ICT
network and library management system across the whole of Northern
Ireland. In tandem with the technological advances co-operative arrangements
have been put in place so that all public library users can search
a single catalogue and request any item no matter which library or
Board it is housed in.
The Academic and National Library Training
Co-operative
This co-operative group was founded in 1995 with the aim of forming
an ongoing co-operative training and development programme based on
the training needs within member Irish academic and national libraries
This training supplements each institution's own programme and through
joint group consultation aims to offer a wide range of training opportunities
to library staff at an economical rate. Co-operative training also
enables staff to meet colleagues from other institutions.
