News and Events in the East Midlands
May 2006
Inspire in the East Midlands Briefing meeting
A briefing meeting was held to bring together representatives of participating libraries and members of the regional Inspire Steering Group.
The purpose of the meeting was to clarify the principles of Inspire; outline progress at national and regional levels; look at how we can move forward in the East Midlands and launch the scheme to the wider public; and to consider issues such as staff training and guidance, marketing materials, launch events and monitoring and evaluation.
There was strong support for Inspire and a very constructive discussion about the ways in which it might operate in the East Midlands.
It was proposed that a region-wide access scheme similar to the North East's passport scheme should be launched and the regional Steering Group endorsed this proposal. A leaflet to promote awareness of Inspire and the findit! website together with an access card for users is now in preparation. Briefing notes are being produced for staff in participating libraries and it is anticipated that Inspire in the East Midlands will be launched in autumn 2006.
June 2006
Building Partnerships for the Future - bringing health and public libraries together
In June a one-day workshop was held to bring together senior colleagues from health and public libraries across the East Midlands. The event held at Nottingham's Queens Medical Centre Postgraduate Education Centre was attended by representatives of the region's public library services, health sector colleagues and other bodies including Higher Education, MLA East Midlands and Libraries and Information East Midlands.
The aim of the day was to enable the development of new contacts and facilitate future partnership working, to share existing good practice and to encourage health libraries to sign up to Inspire. Speakers included Sally Curry, National Partnerships Manager for Inspire. The event was very well received by participants and it is anticipated that a number of health sectors libraries will shortly register to participate in Inspire.
30 April 2005
The East Midlands regional Inspire Steering Group held its first meeting on Friday 29th April 2005. Group members:
- Discussed the Inspire national framework and were updated on the work and progress of the national steering group
- Agreed the terms of reference for the group and clarified roles of its members
- Discussed current initiatives within the region which are already supporting the principles of Inspire such as the work of the existing sub-regional partnerships and the DiadEM project (further details below)
- Considered how best to engage the wider library community and agreed to identify a number of activists from participating library services to help ensure the effective delivery of Inspire across the region
